What is an MCP server?
An MCP server is a connector that lets an AI agent use an outside tool or data source, such as a CRM, a database or a file drive, through the Model Context Protocol. Anthropic published the protocol as an open standard in November 2024, and Claude, Cursor, VS Code and other clients now support it.
How to choose one
Prefer the Official server when the vendor publishes one. Check what the server can do, not only what it can read: a server that can write or delete needs stricter permissions. Remote servers run on someone else's infrastructure, so check who operates them before sending company data.

Questions
people ask.
Do I need to code to use an MCP server?
Not for most of them. Many install by adding a few lines to your client's configuration, and some remote servers connect with a URL and a login. Self hosted servers need someone comfortable with the command line.
Are MCP servers safe?
They are as safe as the code and the permissions you give them. Use read only access where you can, keep credentials out of shared configuration files and prefer maintained projects with a clear licence.
Is it safe to install what I find here?
Every listed item passed an automatic scan for credential theft, hidden instructions to the AI and risky install commands, and comes from a licensed, active project. That lowers the risk but does not remove it. Read the code and check the permissions before you connect anything to company data.
