Overview

Built a DIY toolkit helping airline passengers claim EU261 flight compensation directly from airlines, bypassing agency fees that typically take 25-35% of payouts. The toolkit includes eligibility checking, auto-filled claim templates in 4 languages, airline contact databases, and response guides for handling airline pushback.

Context

Under EU Regulation 261/2004, passengers are entitled to compensation of €250-600 for delayed, cancelled, or overbooked flights. However, many passengers either don't know their rights or use claim agencies that take 25-35% of the payout. Easy Claims EU saw an opportunity to empower passengers to claim directly while still providing value through tools and guidance.

The challenge

Passengers entitled to EU261 compensation often don't realize they can file claims directly with airlines. Those who try frequently give up when faced with airline bureaucracy, confusing forms, or initial rejections. The challenge was creating a toolkit comprehensive enough to handle the full claim process, from eligibility verification through follow-up and escalation, while remaining simple enough for anyone to use without legal expertise.

Our approach

  • Researched EU261 regulation requirements, exceptions, and recent court rulings affecting claim validity
  • Compiled airline-specific contact information, online claim form links, and submission requirements for 50+ airlines
  • Created claim letter templates covering all compensation scenarios: delays, cancellations, overbooking, and missed connections
  • Developed follow-up sequence templates for airlines that don't respond within regulatory timeframes
  • Built response guides addressing common airline rejection tactics with counter-arguments and evidence requirements
  • Translated all materials into 4 languages: English, Spanish, French, and Catalan
  • Created eligibility checker walking users through qualification criteria before they invest time in claims

What we delivered

  • Interactive eligibility checker that determines if a flight qualifies for compensation
  • Auto-filled claim letter templates in 4 languages with fields for flight details and passenger information
  • Airline contact database with direct links to claim submission forms for 50+ carriers
  • Follow-up reminder scripts and escalation templates for non-responsive airlines
  • Response guide addressing 15+ common airline excuses with suggested counter-responses
  • Complete toolkit packaged for one-time €5 purchase with lifetime access

The impact

Users report successful claims ranging from €250 to €600, keeping the full amount rather than losing 25-35% to agencies. The one-time €5 price point makes the toolkit accessible while providing clear value against typical agency fees.
